I’m D.J. Billings, and I turn what your developers know into writing your customers understand. I write documentation, tutorials, blog posts, and marketing copy for WordPress and SaaS teams. I learn your product the way a new user would, read your support tickets to see where people get stuck, and write in a voice that sounds like your brand.

These days, I work primarily as a writer, but I am also an illustrator and animator. My work has appeared in Wired, Highlights, Blue’s Clues, Malt Advocate, and online. I am also a WordPress website consultant. I live with my wife and kids in the greater Chicago area and love tinkering with vintage computers, real wood furniture, and my 1966 VW Beetle.
In addition to technical writing and marketing copy, I also write creative fiction. I have just completed a middle-grade novel among other works:
Road Trip with Rabbit and Squash – Fully illustrated children’s book. Adults can read it, too.
Thrilling Your Customers – I published this book geared towards brick-and-mortar businesses, and guess what happened right after? COVID. Talk about your timing, right? That’s okay. It’s still relevant.
Pants! – Okay, it’s a card game I designed and created. But I also had to write the instructions.
